setting the record straight

And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?
~ Esther 4:14b

If you have ever been falsely accused of something, what affect did this have on you, your job, or your relationships? Likely you felt helpless and feared you could not overcome the circumstance. Perhaps this example of a young woman’s courage will give you confidence the next time you need to set the record straight.

In the reign of King Xerxes a young Jewish girl, Esther, is selected as his queen. Esther’s uncle, Mordecai, sends word to her about a plot to have the Jews annihilated because of the accusation made by Haman, the King’s royal official. Esther fears an audience with the King because death is the punishment for entering his presence without being summoned. Then Mordecai tells her that because of her royal position and the courage from God, she will be able to save her people. Esther then prays and fasts for three days and receives encouragement from God to face the King even though she may die. In the end, her confidence to speak the truth in love led to her people being saved.

Esther had a difficult challenge to overcome the false accusations made by Haman that could have cost not only her life, but the lives of her people. Similarly, when we are falsely accused, the pain we feel is real and certainly our circumstances will change. But by trusting in God, the truth shall be revealed. Use the courage God gives you to speak the truth, or like Mordecai, God will give you an advocate who can speak in your behalf.
