take time to listen to him

As Jesus and His disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to Him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to Him and asked, "Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!"

"Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."
~ Luke 10:38-42

The world continually parades bigger and better distractions before us. Rarely are the distractions exceedingly evil or wicked; no, they’re much more insidious. It may be an extra hour of sleep, catching the big game, or a little shopping at the mall. Although these things (and there are many more) are not "evil," they can easily become snares that keep us from realizing the peace that abounds in Christ. Sit down, get comfortable, listen to what the Lord wants to share with you, and make today a "Mary" day.

Livingstone planned to go to China, but God led him to Africa, to be its missionary-statesman, general and explorer. Alexander Mackay prepared for work in Madagascar, but was directed to Uganda, to aid in founding one of the most remarkable missions in the world. Carey proposed to go to the South Sea, but was guided divinely to India, to give the Bible in their native tongue to its teeming millions. ~ J. H. Bomberger
